I had the chance to tour the new wedding & event venue coming to Cedar Falls, IA, and chat all things weddings with two of the owners! If you’re planning a wedding in the Cedar Valley and searching for a modern, light-filled venue with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, you’re going to want to keep your eye on Frolic Event Center.

Set to open in June 2026, this brand-new and STUNNING venue on the South end of Cedar Falls is already creating a lot of buzz. After getting a behind-the-scenes tour on 4/8/26, I can confidently say it’s something our area has truly been needing.

A Dream Brought to Life

Frolic Event Center has been years in the making.

Co-owner, Jenny, has dreamed of creating an event space for over a decade, and through the right timing and partnership with her husband, Kurt, and two other couples, that dream is finally becoming reality. After working through planning, approvals, and construction, the space is now well on its way to opening its doors.

And the best part? You can feel the intention behind every decision.

A Modern Space Designed for Real Weddings

One of the standout features of Frolic is how it blends modern design with warmth.

The bright white interior, high ceilings, and rows of large windows create a clean and timeless look, while still feeling inviting and comfortable. It’s the kind of space that works beautifully with a wide range of wedding styles without feeling overly trendy.

From what I saw during my visit:

Or take things outside with a natural backdrop

One of the most unique features is the wetland preserve next to the property, filled with native grasses and flowers. It’s going to be especially beautiful at sunset and adds a completely different feel to your wedding gallery.

Q&A with the Owners:

I had the chance to chat with the owners during my visit, and hearing their vision made me even more excited about this space.

What inspired you to create Frolic Event Center, and what gap did you see in the Cedar Falls wedding venue market? Jenny has wanted to build an event center for over ten years. Her husband, Kurt did not want her tied up every weekend running an event center. As fate would have it, Ozegovic Homes built the Boevers a new house and approached them to purchase the ground where Frolic Event Center sits today. Kurt jokes that rather than getting a divorce, he caved and agreed to a partnership between them and two other couples.
Can you share the story behind the name “Frolic”? Previously, Jenny owned Fig & Frolic, a downtown Cedar Falls shop with a large following that closed when COVID struck. Frolic is a term Kurt & Jenny both heard growing up that isn't regularly used in today's world. Webster's dictionary describes Frolic as follows: Verb - to play or run around happily; Noun - an occasion or scene of fun: party. "Frolic" is what they and their partners want to occur at the event center.
What has the building process been like so far? Two years have passed since the first talks began with the City of Hudson (the building is within Hudson city limits but has a Cedar Falls address). After multiple back-and-forth discussions with the City and building engineers, final approval was received and a building permit was issued in November 2025. Ozegoic Homes has built numerous homes in the Cedar Valley and having them construct what has been Jenny's dream for over 10 years is pure joy. Seeing engaged couples' eyes light up when they see the space has been the best part.
Were there specific design elements you prioritized? A modern, unique, warm vibe. The backdrop for the outdoor wedding area is a wetland preserve featuring native Indian grass, flowers, and breathtaking sunsets. By paying close attention to small details, we hope to make wedding dreams come true.
What wedding styles work best here? The venue design has a modern vibe, but with a warmth that some modern designs lack.
What are the biggest benefits for couples? Our design allows flexibility in guest capacity. We permit any licensed vendor the couple desires, and weddings can be performed indoors or outdoors. The location is convenient, just off Highway 20 with multiple hotels nearby. We also offer shuttle service to these hotels.
What feeling do you hope couples experience when they walk in? A feeling of ease, relaxation, and excitement for a celebration at the Frolic.
What should couples know right now before booking? We feel fortunate that so many couples have placed their trust in us based on 3D renderings. We are having an open house on Saturday, June 6th and welcome the entire public to see Cedar Valley's latest venue.
What trends influenced your design? Having a space where a wedding, reception and dance can be held in one location.
Do you have a favorite hidden feature? A favorite hidden gem is the wetlands preserve adjacent to the property, which offers a gorgeous natural backdrop.

Final Thoughts

Frolic Event Center is more than just a new venue, it’s a space built with intention, heart, and a genuine love for celebration. I can already envision all the love and celebrations that Frolic will host and I can't wait to be a part of it! Once it officially opens, I have a feeling it’s going to become a favorite for couples all across the Cedar Valley.
